Google Doodle on M.F. Hussain's 100th Birthday

Today, 17 Sep 2015 is not only the Ganesh Chaturthi for the year, but also the Centenary Birthday of the Picasso of India – Maqbool Fida Hussain.  And Google has honoured M.F. Hussain with a Doodle for the occasion.  It is also a timely reminder to the rightwing Hindutva groups, and the regime of PM Narendra Modi, about tolerance and freedom of arts and literature.

If you are in New York, as the PM Narendra Modi will be between 23 Sep to 28 Sep, you may want to visit the Aicon Gallery, where the ‘Hussain at Hundred’ is to be exhibited from today till 24 October.  Not that you would run in the PM there.

Even when the so called liberal Congress led administration was in charge, M.F. Hussain was threatened by the hard-right Hindutva groups, which are the unofficial backbenchers of the present regime.  The situation became so chaotic that M.F. Hussain relocated to Dubai in 2006, and later to London, in self-exile, where he died on 09 Jun 2011.
