Of all the muck-ups that can happen, missing a whole state in the National Voters Service Portal [http://nvsp.in/] by the Election Commission of India must take the cake. The Election Commission of India (ECI) forgot to include Tamil Nadu under the ‘States’ option.
:-(
To start the story, I chanced upon the newspaper advertisement about the National Voters Service Portal today. I wanted to try out the portal, perhaps write a blog post and get a few quick hits, and also link up my email ID, mobile number and Aadhaar number with my Electoral Picture Identity Card (EPIC) data, without a hassle.
The first problem is to locate all the documents. Being the clutter-fest my home is, the EPIC and the Aadhaar are in two different lockers, in two different rooms, hidden under a whole lot of essential and junk papers. But within a couple of hours I managed to get them both together. And found ECI has conveniently forgotten about my home state Tamil Nadu.
The first step to feed the Aadhaar Number is to feed in the EPIC number and the State, which is a dropdown list. To my shock and horror, there is no Tamil Nadu at all. I reasoned out that since there is a bye-election scheduled on 15 Feb 2015 in Tamil Nadu for the former Chief Minister’s constituency, perhaps service for TN has been blocked.
But Delhi, the state where the voting is underway right now, is present. So too are Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Maharashtra, and West Bengal where bye-elections are also scheduled on the same 13 Feb 2015!
Then, I counted out the number of states and union territories in the dropdown list. To my horror they totalled only 33, whereas there are 29 states and 7 union territories (including the National Capital Region of Delhi) in India. So who are the missing 3? They are Assam, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.
Note : This fiasco is ‘not’ present in the Online Voter Registration pages (form 6 to 8A)
Here is the screen capture.
To cap the cock-up, there is no email ID (AFAI can search) to let them know about the mess.
