Not Coffin Scam but Khadi Scam this time

What will you do if you inherit an organisation with annual turnover of ~ $ 3 billion, employing over 12 million people.  I cannot say what a Manager, an Engineer, or an Accountant would, but only say what a tea-seller can do.  Disband the organisation. The next step? Obviously , hand it over to cohorts, and self-styled god men in the name of privatization and efficiency.  I always wondered how long it would take for the worms to squirm out after the change in the government.  And they have started to, at least the first one.

For the uninitiated, Khadi, also known as ‘Khaddar’ is the term for hand-spun and hand-woven cotton cloth from India.  While it is one of the largest employer, surpassing even the IT industry in India, especially rural India, it is also encompasses the largest group of people living Below Poverty Line.

The 2 chief problems in the Khadi sector are
  • the failure of the wealth to trickle-down; and,
  • the unavailability of Yarn.
Studies say both are connected.  Unlike the agriculture sector, where even the smallest farmer has direct access to government issued agri-inputs like seed, fertilizer and pesticides, the handloom sector suffers from a serious bottleneck.  The bottleneck in the form of ‘master weavers’, who control the access to yarn, dyeing and credit facilities.

On the healthcare side, no special studies or programs – either preventive, or curative – have been effectively implemented.  The last major initiative by the UPA-2 to bring cashless health cover failed, as people simply do not trust private insurance and reimbursement companies and schemes.

BTP, Yoga guru Ramdev wants to be the ‘saviour’ of the ‘thriving’ Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), which was summarily disbanded by the Modi regime in July 2014.  [http://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/ramdev-eyes-khadi-pie-offers-r-amp-d-help/article1-1303107.aspx]

The irony is that the Prime Minister Modi, during his first ‘mann ke baat’ radio address to the nation on October 3, urged people to use Khadi products, saying it would benefit the poor.  I am sure that it was not the poor Yoga Gurus he had in mind.

What a joke on the citizens of India.  After the handover, I have no doubt that there would be uniforms prescribed for the people who will henceforth slave for the Yoga Guru.  Men would have to wear Salwar Kameez – as if attempting an escape from a public meeting.  Would the women be required to grow a beard like the guru is to be decided later.

ROFLMAO

PS: (added 1 hour later) :
1) My solution to improving Khadi sales is to utilise the emerging e-commerce website, termed 'e-tail' in India.  Gently remind the Flipkarts, Amazon and Jabongs et al, to ensure 5% of their shirts and suits also carry Khadi.

2) Perhaps even turn the solution (1) around like a real outside-the-box thinker.  Educate the weavers at the producing end to procure yarn from e-tail, and directly sell finished products through etail, may be as a cooperative.
