Thursday 15th January 2015 is the day of Thai Pongal (தைப்பொங்கல்) or Pongal (பொங்கல்), the winter harvest festival celebrated by Tamil people at the end of the harvest season. Like every other festival, the day will also be celebrated as Makar Sankranti or Lohri (one day earlier) or Bihu in other parts of India.
Last year, the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in what was his last Pongal greetings (as predicted) had wished “prosperity and joy to all”. Let us see what the present Prime Minister Narendra Modi has to say on Wednesday.
In Tamil Nadu, it is traditional to perform - what else but a Pooja - on the occasion. In keeping with popular request, here is the Makar Sankranti or Pongal 2015 Pooja vidhi in Tamil, uploaded in Google Drive.
It contains the complete procedure and more importantly, the auspicious or best timings for cooking the Pongal itself, and for the puja – just as stated in yesterday’s post about Tharpanam. [Watch out for the Gho Pooja procedure in Tamil tomorrow]
