Avani Avittam (ஆவணி அவிட்டம்) or Upakarma in 2014 for Yajur Veda practitioners is on 10 August 2014, the coming Sunday.
This year around there seems to be slight confusion on the day for the Rig Veda Upakarma or Avani Avittam. Some prefer to perform the same along with Yajur Upakarma, while others prefer the 07 Sep 2014, which is another Sunday.
The Sama Veda Avani Avittam or Upakarma is as usual falls on or around the Ganesh Chaturthi day, on 29 Aug 2014, which is not a Sunday - a Tuesday, in fact.
However, the Gayathri Mantra Japam is to be performed by all the 3 Veda practitioners on 11 Aug 2014, the coming Monday after the Yajur Veda Upakarma.
If you had read the post of yesterday, you would know the enormous effort put in this year to publish a most current, unique, and convenient document for all the people who are out of state or overseas, and cannot procure the services of a guru (whether Iyer or Iyengar) to perform the Upakarma and Gayathri Japam.
As mentioned there, this year we are going to put up 2 versions of the procedure - a Basic or Free version and a Premium version. All are PDF documents (even the Basic is not image file as posted earlier).

Check out the latest version - free download at:

The mantras for 29 Aug and 07 Sep are *not* in this file (or in today’s premium versions). Premium versions in respective languages do not include the Gayathri Japam procedure too - it is separate. The Premium versions will be uploaded by tonight.
So here is the snapshot of the PDF file - Basic or Free version - which has been uploaded to my Google Drive, PDF file of just 288 KB, digitally signed, and printable, compared to the Premium version, which is most elaborate.
If you really appreciate the effort, you can even use the PayPal button on top right to slip a few $ to us! [Tip: Since PayPal does not allow Donations to India, it will appear as an invoice in your PayPal/Card account]
The Premium Versions are *the only versions* now available (from 12 Aug 2014).
The Gayathri Japam includes the full procedure for Japam in Tamil, English and Sanskrit, a PDF file of total 7 pages, 274 KB. It is priced at $2.00.
The Yajur/Rig Upakarma (10/08/2014) files include the full procedure, whole mantras, and side-by-side steps to complete the avani-avittam, each priced at $3.00.
the Tamil PDF is 21 pages, 351 KB;
the English (IAST) PDF is 13 pages, 234 KB; and,
the Sanskrit PDF is 14 pages, 326 KB.
Order them through the PayPal button below, and within one hour (during daytime India), I will email you the file link. Night time will take much longer. :-D It might take up to 24 hours for the PDF file(s) to be emailed to you, as they are past their 'do-by' dates.

As mentioned there, this year we are going to put up 2 versions of the procedure - a Basic or Free version and a Premium version. All are PDF documents (even the Basic is not image file as posted earlier).
- The first difference is the Basic version is of 11 pages. (compare this with last year’s 4 half pages of scanned text)! The Premium versions range from 13 (English) to 21 (Tamil), without the Gayathri Japam procedure!.
- The second difference is the Basic version will indicate the day-to-day mantras (like acamanam, pranayamam, etc), but not give those in full. The Premium version will give all the mantras in full, from start (samida-dhanam) to finish.
- The 3rd difference is the Basic version will not have the Tips or actions to be performed with each mantra. For e.g., there will be just ‘pavitram dhṛtvā’ or ‘apa-upaspruśya’. The Premium version will have the tips, side-by-side. For e.g., pavitram dhṛtvā (wear Pavitram) or apa-upaspruśya (touch water).
- The 4th difference is the Basic or Free version will be only in Tamil. If you need the mantras in Sanskrit (Devanagri Script) or English (IAST transliteration), you have to get the Premium versions. (There is also a Premium Tamil version).
