Kochadaiiyaan is a 2014 Indian Tamil motion capture 3D computer-animated period film directed by Soundarya R. Ashwin and written by K. S. Ravikumar. Oh! that takes the breathe away, and so does the superstar Rajinikanth as an animated, youthful general.
The story of the movie Kochadaiiyan is all about fight between two fictional kingdoms of Kallingapatanam and Kothapatanam. Rajinikanth’s screen name is Rana and he is the General of the Kallingapuram army. A very warlike character Rajinikanth as the animated, youthful Rana, trains the Kallingapuram army into a formidable fighting force. He invades and defeats all the nearby kingdoms.

With the help of his friend and in-law Shourya Simha, played by Jackie Shroff, married to Rana's sister, Rana enters and captures the Kothapatnam. Deepika Padukone, with the screen name Vandana Devi looks cute and makes up the romantic interest of Rana.
Nasser is the villain in the movie and plays the role of Ugra Simha. He exiles Rana's friend and brother in law Shorya Simha, captures and imprisons Rana. But Rana already has captured the mood and the hearts of the citizens of Kothapatnam - think about that!
Then comes the flashback story of the 2nd Rajinikanth character, the father of Rana, called Kochadaiiyaan. In the flashback we are told that Ugra Simha frustrated with public adulation of Kochadaiiyaan manages to kill him at Kothapatnam. Meanwhile, the King of Kallingapuram suspects a grand conspiracy and orders his army to attack Kothapatnam. But soldiers trained and loyal to Rana, refuse to take up arms against their supposed enemies - brings back to mind 'Gladiator'!
Rana also manages to escape from the prison, joins the mutinying army and turns it against both the Kallingapatanam and Kothapatanam kingdoms. In the ensuing fight, Rana's army manages to subdue both the loyal forces of the 2 kingdoms. And Rana and his consort(s) live happily ever after - hopefully!
Plus:
Story and screen play, though jaded, is allright. The Direction of Soundarya, daughter of Rajinikanth, deserves credit, though at times we get the feeling that she tried to overreach witht he visual effects. Overwhelming all these is A.R. Rahman’s background score.
Minus:
Aadhi’s voice is a complete turnoff, and we could have done without the 2 boring songs in the later half of the movie. The last and the longest action sequence is a complete put-off. Hope they halve the sequence and still manage the effects.
Final words:
A must watch movie for all the Rajinikanth fans. For others, it is a good animation movie, enjoyable over the weekend. But for goodness sake, take the 2D version - the 3D version has some effects which will completely take off your attention from storyline.
