Ustad Alla Rakha birthday Google Doodle

It was a pleasant surprise today morning to visit the Google India homepage to find a Doodle honoring the tabla maestro Ustad Alla Rakha.  If you have not heard of him, he is the father of the well known tabla exponent Zakir Husain - of the ‘Wah, Taj!’ fame.

The Google Doodle has a caricature of Ustad Alla Rakha playing the tabla - the two tabla drums making up the two 'o' in the word Google.  The other letters appear to have taken the inspiration from the black etchings usually found on tabla tops, to make up the full word.
