If you thought that the Google Doodle of Republic Day 2013 with a scurvy, sleep-deprived Tiger, was the height of kitsch you would not be far wrong.
This year’s Doodle for the Republic Day is only slightly better. What is supposed to depict the extreme stunts of the Indian Army Motorcycle Team comprising the Army Corps of Signals, appears like a tricolor egg basket.
For the 65th Republic Day, it could not get more crass than that - except last year’s Tiger perhaps. Google has started to depict a Doodle on India’s Republic Day only for the last few years. They started off with a Jet Flypast Doodle in 2010. They went with animal motif in 2012 and 2013 - a parade of elephants, and that tiger with a hangover respectively.
This year they tried to get back into the spirit of the Republic Day parade, and have done so in not so tasteful manner.
However, here is the Doodle and good wishes for the Republic Day. Long live the Republic.
