Tomorrow 14th January 2014 is the day of Thai Pongal (தைப்பொங்கல்) or Pongal (பொங்கல்), the winter harvest festival celebrated by Tamil people at the end of the harvest season. Like every other festival, the day will also be celebrated as Makar Sankaranthi or Lohri (on 13th) or Bihu in other parts of India.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in what is perhaps his last Pongal greetings has wished “prosperity and joy to all”, while the President Pranab Mukherjee has said, “On the joyous occasion of Lohri, Makar Sankranti and Pongal, I convey my greetings and best wishes to all citizens of India and wish them prosperity and happiness."
"May the celebrations reinforce the ties that bind us together as a nation, in peace and harmony. May the harvest herald the beginning of further growth and progress and inspire us to work for the overall development of our country."
In Tamil Nadu, it is traditional to perform - what else but a Pooja - on the occasion. In keeping with popular request, here is the Makar Sankaranthi or Pongal 2014 Pooja vidhi in Tamil, uploaded in Google Drive.
