There is an old joke about an Office Memorandum which states that henceforth any memo not actually signed, but stamped with a signature facsimile is to be considered invalid, and not to be obeyed. Implementation of the new order is to be from the date of issue. The only catch was the memo itself was stamped and did not bear the actual signature.
:-D
Think of the dilemma. If we had to obey the memo, then this memo itself becomes invalid and not to be followed. In which case, it stands good and has to be followed.
But such ironical situation need not be old. Just look at what I found at my local Electricity Board office when I went there to pay the utility bill.
The public announcement in Tamil requests all consumers to leave/register their mobile numbers with them, to enable VAS - the billed amount, due dates, etc. to be sent by SMS to the consumers.
All good and encouraging. Except for the addendum in English, which asks someone to spell check the Tamil text.
The only problem is it is spelled ‘pl. spell ckeck.’
What I cannot understand is how the spell checker in the PC or Linux box in which this announcement was typed, missed the typo in English!
