This Saturday, October 26th, there is a planned rally where thousands are expected to gather in Washington, DC to protest mass government surveillance.
Mass surveillance is a threat to the Internet. The United States NSA's programs (and programs inspired by them in other countries) threaten our ability to communicate and conduct transactions privately online.
The EFF, ACLU, Free Press, Demand Progress, and dozens of other technology policy advocates have spent the last six weeks planning a rally in DC to attempt to convince the US Congress to make meaningful change while Snowden's leaks are in public's attention.
While it is impossible for me to travel to Washington DC right now (:-D) to attend the rally, I have elected to rally to the call and display the ‘Cat Signal’ in support of the assembly and protest march.
The plan is to begin the Rally at 11:30 am Eastern, Saturday October 26th, with a meeting in front of the Union Station, by the Christopher Columbus Memorial Foundation, and start the march by noon to the Capitol Reflecting Pool.
Starting later today ("on" this Thursday at 9 am EST) this blog will display a banner which will stay on until Saturday when the rally starts at 12 noon EST.
Don’t worry if you don’t see the banner, because, it will:

Don’t worry if you don’t see the banner, because, it will:
- only be shown to users in areas within driving distance of DC;
- not be shown to Mobile users;
- automatically stop serving the banner at 12 noon on October 26th (the start time of the rally); and,
- if a user closes the banner, it won't be shown to them again for 48 hours.
