Once again, Google comes up with a subtle change in their Terms of Service, which will be operational from 11 Nov 2013. While the tweaks are minor, the effects will be felt by everyone using Google+.
The most important change is to add users' names, photos, reviews or comments in Google’s own ads - called Shared Endorsements by Google. It means exactly what it does - Any endorsements an user makes for a product or service can be shared. Such endorsements would appear everywhere in the Google world - Google Maps, Google Play and Google Search results.
Of course users can opt out of sharing the endorsements or restrict appearance of endorsements to certain circles. Sounds familiar? It is similar to the Facebook move to display users’ face and names in ads about products which they liked.
Other 2 importance changes to Google ToS is the advisory or caution to use mobile devices safely and safety of password. While both read like what a blogger like me would post in public interest, from Google it looks more like a gentle roll to avoid liability in case of stolen passwords, lost mobiles and improper use of both.
I especially like the one about using mobiles while driving : It’s just good common sense: Don’t use our services if you’re doing something that requires your full attention, like driving, and our services might distract you. And, of course, always follow the law while driving.
What it means in practice is more and more of users’ activity is being digitally archived. Over a period of months (or years), an active +1 clickers movement can be visualized - like plotting the shrinkage of glaciers!
