One Red October with Tom Clancy Dead

One of the Best-selling US author Tom Clancy, known primarily his Jack Ryan series of novels, has died aged 66, his publisher has confirmed.  Tom Clancy is the author of some of the best-selling spy and military thrillers.

Many of his books featuring CIA analyst Ryan were adapted into successful films, including 'The Hunt for Red October' and 'Patriot Games'.  Tom Clancy, who was a insurance broker, before turning into author died in a Baltimore hospital near his Maryland home, according to reports.

The Hunt for Red October (1984) was Clancy's first published novel and sold more than five million copies.  President Ronald Reagan in a way popularized the book when he termed it as a ‘perfect yarn’.

Personally I became a fan of Jack Ryan novels after reading ‘The Sum of All Fears’ - my first Tom Clancy novel.  In fact I read ‘The Cardinal of Kremlin’, before I could lay my hands on ‘The Hunt for Red October’.

Clancy also became one of the pioneers in turning novels into video games  In the 1990s he founded Red Storm Entertainment, later bought by Ubisoft, which developed games based on Clancy's ideas.  I suspect that Tom Clancy’s video gaming success was a inspiration behind another fiction character Lucas Davenport of Prey series, who is portrayed as a games developer.

Blockbuster video game titles bearing his name included Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six.
