About an year after Google acquired Quickoffice, they have made the mobile App free. In case you have not heard of Quickoffice, it is an App for viewing and editing Microsoft Office Documents on Tablets and Mobiles.
After acquiring Quickoffice, Google slowly rolled it out as a free app to their Google Apps for Business customers. For normal users like us, the full version was not free. A day back, Google unleashed the free version for Android and iOS platforms in the Google Play and App Store respectively.
Does it really work - especially on mobiles? To check it out, I downloaded Quickoffice free from Google Play and installed it on my Gingerbread phone. Installation is a breeze. Even though the phone cribbed about Low on Space initially, the Quickoffice installed without any problems. Here are the screencaptures.
Quickoffice works without any hickups with Word DOC, PDF files and normal Excel XLS files. Password protected Excel XLS files throw up an error and are not displayed, though the same file converted as GSheet displays without a problem. Here are the screencapture from my Android phone.
To sweeten the deal, Google is also dishing out 10GB of extra Google Drive space (for next 2 years) to those who sign up for Quickoffice now (by 26th Sep 2013).
So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and sign up. Me, I can’t wait for Quickoffice to be ported to Google Chrome browser!
