The spring is here - actually Chennai is sweltering as we have only summer, rains and a bit of winter - and the cuckoos are announcing it. With the spring comes the New Year festivals and holidays for all the people of India, usually around the new moon day in April.
Today is Ugadi - the New Year day for the people of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka as also Gudi Padwa - the New Year day for the people of Maharashtra. On Sunday is the Tamil New Year and Baishaki.
As has been customary for the last 3 years (2010, 2011 and 2012), here is wishing all the readers a very Happy New Year on Ugadi, Gudi Padwa along with Cheti Chand (on 12 April).
So what if there is no Google Doodle celebrating Gudi Padwa, Tamil New Year and Ugadhi? We can always have a Moodle instead. So here is the Moodle instead of the Ugadi, Gudi Padwa Google Doodle for 2013.
The Gudi image is courtesy unknown blogger; Neem flowers from Wikimedia Commons. All other images used are shot today at my home for Ugadi 2013.
The Moodle itself is made up of a jaggery piece flanked by green chillies, an unripe mango, a coconut, neem blossoms, a gudi and the auspicious betel leaves with flower.
Hope you’ve enjoyed the Moodle instead of the Ugadi, Gudi Padwa Google Doodle.
PS: For some reason, the 2011 Ugadi post is the most popular, even though it is the 2012 Ugadi image which shows up in Google search!
