The latest update to WhatsApp has changed the app UI, the fonts, larger text boxes and the colour scheme. Cosmetic is the term which we normally use for such changes, but in the case of WhatsApp 2.9, the changes do ease user experience.
The fonts are much cleaner, easier to read with a simple glance without having to shift too much focus to the Android phone. The slightly cartoonish rounded speech bubble like text box has been replaced with a more square one and with cleaner font, is much better.
The emoticons have been shifted right next to the reply box/button as opposed to the top right corner of the chat window, far easier and intuitive to work with.
The menus are different too, setting menu is cleaner, the colours have acquired subtle shades - overall easy on the eye and fingers. The new design complies with the Holo design language Google introduced with Android 3.0.
WhatsApp assures us of ‘improvements, larger group chats and new features such as Profile Photos’, though you still have to fork out Rs. 50 (0.99 dollars) per year after the free first year of service.
The only problem is there appears to be problem in setting status. I just can’t seem to be able to change my status.
:-(
BTW this update of WhatsApp makes it compatible with BlackBerry 10.
