What is new in Comodo Internet Security 6.0.264710

An updated version of Comodo Internet Security with version number 6.0.264710.2708 was released day before yesterday.  So what is new in this version.  For a normal user, who is *not* on Windows 8, there wouldn’t be any noticeable difference.  However, there are a lot of security and bug fixes for users of any Windows OS system.

There are some 14 bug fixes which vary from mildly irritating to positively frustrating.  For eg., when you run Comodo Dragon (derived from Google Chrome), or Palemoon (derived from Firefox) or even Firefox itself in isolation or sandbox mode, Java would never start.  Different matter that till now, some of us had taken that to be a deliberate security feature.
:-P

The positively frustrating issues have been when Browsers running in Sandbox are denied internet access!  Shucks!  I mean, what is the idea in denying internet access to a browser?

Or when files cannot be re-classified as trusted when Comodo Internet Security doesn’t recognize them as such.  God in Heaven!

Anyway, after testing the new Comodo Internet Security 6.0.264710.2708 over 2 days, I can positively say that all these bugs seem to have been fixed.  However, in their attempt to fix bugs, seems Comodo has completely rewritten the CIS 6.0.264710.2708.

With earlier versions of CIS, only some modules used to be updated and the whole process used to take a couple of minutes.  With Comodo Internet Security 6.0.264710.2708 update, it seems the whole software bundle has to be downloaded for the update.

Look at the following snapshot.  The whole update is a whopping ~150 MB.  Goodness gracious.

BTW, after the update, the system response seems to be slicker.  Which would mean either the real time scanner has really be rewritten/tuned for performance or it is not working at all.
:-D

Attempting a download of eicar test file shows that the CIS real time scanner is working.  So good work Comodo!
