After 47 days it was time to give an hour to the list of current software versions in the Latest Versions Page. Somehow or other, that was a chore which kept skipping by.
In a way this 1-1/2 month abstinence from that list was also an eye opener. For looking at the list anew, it became apparent that some of the software / tools listed there have to be discarded because:
The much revered Yahoo Messenger (anyone still using it?) has been trashed by Skype or even Trillian. But with Google Talk video & voice plugin and its smooth integration with Android platforms (through Gmail) and Google+ hangout, even Skype seems a little old fashioned.
As a matter of fact, the original articles 12 Security Tools for Windows and 24 Essential Utilities for Windows themselves have to be rewritten.
Meantime, the List of Current Versions of Software has been updated, perhaps for the last time with the present list.
:-P

- better software / tools have become available;
- the idea itself has become moot with modern techniques;
- changes in the Operating System has made them obsolete.
