Pongal as Makar Sankaranti is celebrated in my home state of Tamil Nadu is a festival of harvest and animals - specially the cow. It is certainly not the festival of kites as Google had doodled for a couple of years in 2010 and 2011.
Appears Google has decided on an as yet undisclosed policy of keeping away from releasing Doodles on religious occasions from 2012. Google didn’t put up a Doodle for the festival of kites or for Deepavali, the festival of lights or even for Christmas last year, and there is no reason to believe they will put up a Doodle for Pongal tomorrow.
The fact that Google didn’t release a specific Google Doodle for Christmas didn’t faze me. Though it was disappointing, in the Spirit of Christmas, I put up a Moodle in jest.
In the same spirit, as I don’t expect Google to release a Pongal Doodle, here is a Moodle for the occasion. So what if there is no Google Doodle for Pongal!
Enjoy the Moodle instead of the absent Pongal Google Doodle.
Happy Pongal greetings to everyone!
The 'M' is represented by the head of the cow;
The Pongal Paanai (pot) represents the first 'O';
The greeting thamboolam goes for the second 'O';
The Boghi bonfire takes the place of the 'D';
The Sugarcane, Ginger and Turmeric stalks are the 'L'; and,
The Rangoli Sun forms the 'E'.
