Have you ever heard of the Butterfly Effect? In simple terms it says that the flapping of the wings of one single Butterfly in say, Shanghai, may set off a cyclone in say, Chennai.
The idea is that small changes or fluctuations in initial conditions will have a large scale alternations in the effects, after due passage of time. I came across this theory in the Science Fiction story A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury first published in 1952.
Nope I didn’t read it in 1952, but more than 40 years later!
;-)
So if a death of the butterfly in pre-historic times (in that story) can change the course of history at present, what will be the effect of a butterfly’s death today at Chennai?
Will it set off
LOL.
I don’t know what will the the effect of the Death of a Butterfly in Chennai, but I do know that a Butterfly has indeed died today in Chennai.
Today morning, a medium size butterfly was lying dead on the terrace of my apartment complex, near the jasmine plants. The ants had got to her and eaten off most of her torso and part of her right hind wing.
(Did the death of this butterfly in Chennai early morning had the effect of retirement of Sachin Tendulkar at Mumbai by noon?).
Still she was beautiful enough for me to take a snap. Here she is.

- flooding in Shanghai?
- earthquake in Sendai?
- tornado in Seattle?
- tsunami in São Luís?
- eruption in Salina?
LOL.
