So which freeware system cleaner or system optimizer does a thorough job? To understand it we are going to run tests on 5 of the popular, stable (and under active development) system utilities, as written earlier. The settings and criteria are explained in this updated article.
First, we are going to run the freeware
CCleaner 3.25
CCleaner 3.25 with Winapp2.ini (3.25.121212) is the most recommended System Cleaner and there was proof why it was so. A very clean interface, easy to understand and use makes it easy for everyone. The only grouse is it doesn’t summarize the total file count. Counting by hand CCleaner spotted 3948 files / 666 MB to be removed.
BleachBit 0.9.4
BleachBit 0.9.4 with Winapp2.ini (3.25.121212) was a tad different from the earlier tests with 0.9.3. The interface in BleachBit is basic and bland, but does the purpose. Unlike last time when it caught more than CCleaner, this time around BleachBit noticed 3921 files / 628 MB to be removed.
System Ninja 2.4.0
System Ninja 2.4.0, again with Winapp2.ini (3.25.121212) was revelation. Not only is the scanning speed improved over the earlier 2.3 version, it identifies much more junk to be eliminated from the system. As a system optimizer System Ninja is slick and managed to identify 4974 files / 1228 MB to be deleted.
Glary Utilities 2.51
Glary Utilities 2.51 was the surprise package, just like last time. For a system utility held in high regard for such a long time, it managed to locate a measly 146 MB to remove.
Comodo System Utilities 4.0
Unlike the other four, Comodo System Utilities 4.0 is not a portable application, but a regular, standard build. Of late, I’ve started to recommend Comodo System Utilities to all and sundry because I found it to be easy to use and causes minimal damage. Comodo System Utilities, under its Full Clean mode, managed to spot a decent 981 files / 183 MB to delete.
The next step would be to run these system cleaners and see whether they live up to their claims. What we are going to do is to run Glary Utilities, Comodo System Utilities, System Ninja and clean the PC. Then fire-up CCleaner to see if any more files are spotted by it or BleachBit.
