Windows has a far-from-perfect-method while handling software - in their installation, uninstallation or while running them. Bits of software are sprinkled all over, left over files are not cleared up, temporary files aren’t discarded and deleted.
The result? A slow, sluggish, and unresponsive PC. But there are innumerable number of System Cleaners, Optimizers and Utilities, which claim to be better than one another.
We had a look at 8 of the most popular freeware system cleaners about 4 months back. The tests picked CCleaner, BleachBit, System Ninja and Glary Utilities as the best of the best.
In the last tests, we saw the results when the system optimizers were run one after another. Such a test allowed us to see whether one cleaner manages to ‘catch’ some files not noticed and cleaned up by the earlier one.
In this tests we are going to take a different approach. We will frist run all the 5 cleaners in their ‘analyse / preview / scan’ modes. This will give us a clear idea of how many files (number) and disk space (MB) each system cleaner catches.
Then we will run the system cleaners one by one, starting with the utility which catches the least and work our way up. This will be the reverse approach of the earlier tests and will provide a definitive feedback on what these system optimizers have to offer.

- In the 4 months since, all of them have new, updated versions.
- System Ninja has switched to Winapp2.ini file from version 2.4 (like CCleaner and BleachBit).
- Comodo System Utilities, which we did not test, has matured into a stable and reliable system optimizer and cleaner.
