12-12-12 Rajinikanth birthday special - Endrendrum Rajini

Today 12th December 2012 is considered special by many.  Due to a coincidence of maths, numbers, and dates, we have a unique combination of numbers representing today’s date: 12-12-12.

There are reports that people have been eagerly looking forward to get married on this day.  Others have been rushing, pleading and even opting for elective Caesareans to birth their offspring on this day.  For the last 11 years starting from 01-01-01, we have this fad take over people once in an year.

But this year is something special for the Tamil cinema - the Kollywood.  For today falls the birthday of the only Superstar of Tamil Cinema Rajinikanth.  And his fans and well wishers have gone all out to celebrate his birthday today and tomorrow.

Not to be left alone, every magazine worth its name is bringing out a special edition to celebrate (and cash in) on Rajinikanth’s 63rd birthday today.  Even newspapers have fallen into the Rajini magic - with supplements adding to the regular pages.

Not to be outdone, the TV channels have gone all out.  Sun TV one of the premier entertainment channels telecast a special Endrendrum Rajini.

His fans have made elaborate arrangements are being made to celebrate the special day. Members of Rajinikanth’s fan club are organising blood donation camps, functions to distribute financial aid to the needy, special poojas at temples and lunches at old-age homes.

Two books on Rajinikanth are to be released on 12.12.12.

1. My Days with Baasha: The Rajnikant Phenomenon, written by filmmaker Suresh Krishna, who worked with Rajini in three films.
2. Rajinikanth – The Definitive Biography, written by London-based film journalist Naman Ramachandran.

The biggest, largest, official Rajini fans’ entertainment and welfare show is being organised tomorrow at YMCA, Royapettah grounds.  Entry, I believe is by invitation only.  And here is the snapshot of the invitation.
