Caution: Firefox 17 crashed - froze, is unresponsive, sluggish - immediately after install on my Windows 7 x64 bit machine. Watch and wait for a few hours before you install it. Seems the curse of the Mozilla that every even release is a broken release is not fixed yet.
:-S
Apart from the crash, is there anything exciting about the latest release of the browser Firefox 17 from Mozilla?
Yes, it is the much awaited ESR - Extended Service Release, meaning corporates now relying on Mozilla Firefox can now upgrade to Firefox 17 from the earlier Firefox 10 ESR.
Apart, Mozilla Firefox 17 includes Social Networking API. OMG! So exciting, so much fun, so much chitter-chatter. Bull! What developers of Mozilla have done with Firefox 17 is to try and imitate the Rockmelt browser (or the earlier and discontinued - but maybe still alive Flock browser).
Unlike Flock or Rockmelt nothing is prebuilt or loaded inside the Firefox 17. You still have to head to the Facebook Messenger for Firefox page and install it. If you are one of the FB chatterati, do give it a try and tell me about it (provided Firefox 17 doesn’t crash in your PC or is fixed by Mozilla).
:-P
There are lots of security fixes and security updates like sandboxing for iframes - an HTML5 feature and click-to-play blacklisting to stop vulnerable (old) plugins from auto-run. If you are so interested, you can read more on them at the Firefox 17 release notes page.
