No doubt many a Doodle enthusiast was disappointed with the absence of Deepavali Google Doodle yesterday. But today’s Google Doodle especially for India is a fit recompense, if there can be one.
Today 14th of November, for the unknowing, is the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and is celebrated as the National Children’s Day.
Google under its Doodle4Google initiative has started the practice of displaying the National winner’s Doodle on Google India page on the day.
This year the winner is Arun Kumar Yadav, a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Chandigarh. No doubt the Doodle is a winner.
This year’s the theme for competition was ‘Unity in Diversity’ and the winning Doodle aptly displays the diversity and Arun’s creativity:
Salute!

This year’s the theme for competition was ‘Unity in Diversity’ and the winning Doodle aptly displays the diversity and Arun’s creativity:
- various sports, actually Field Hockey, Soccer, Tennis and of course Cricket make up the ‘G’;
- the ancient (and still practised) folk dance of Kerala, Kathakali takes the first ‘O’;
- a necklace embodying the handicraft and workmanship takes the place of second ‘O’;
- the second ‘G’ is taken up by peacock, representing the rich flora and fauna;
- the humble farmer with a plough takes the place of ‘L’ - a message for UPA-2 perhaps?; and,
- a clutch of spices make up the ‘E’ - (I can identify only clove, cardamom and red-chilly; not the other 2).
Salute!
