Whenever people compare my home country India with that of our (sometimes hostile) neighbour China, I get irritated.
Whenever people compare my home country India with (the repressive) neighbour China, I get irritated.
Whenever people compare my home country India with (the development in) China, I get irritated.
Whenever people compare my home country India with that of (the ease of business environment in) China, I get irritated.
Whenever people compare my home country India with that of (the work culture in) China, I get irritated.
Don’t take me wrong. I have nothing against the Chinese people - except admiration. I don’t think the point I am going to make is ever made, in India at least, but head to head, there must be more traders of Chinese origin than of Indian origin worldwide, in spite of the snide comments We, as Indians have been subjected to about ‘Patels’.
That is not counting the number of traders within the actual borders of the People’s Republic.
In simple terms, comparing India and China is comparing Apples to Oranges. For, India is a democracy with an open, working democratic setup with an active media which exposed the alleged corruption of Nitin Gadkari, and the accusation indicating impropriety at best, and money laundering at worst.
The Indian media (or an activist against corruption Arvind Kejriwal) also exposed an alleged corruption against Robert Vadra, a family member, the son in law, of the Party President of the ruling party.
As coincidence would have it, the NYT also carried an expose about alleged amassing of wealth by the family members of Wen Jiabao.
Now, you would see what I mean by apples and oranges.
In India, both Robert Vadra and Nitin Gadkari went into seclusion, if not hiding. They have not dared (as of this post) to come out and talk to the media or even post some sort of explanation in internet. Basically they shut themselves in/up.
In China, the reaction has been to shut down, censor everything which has been written on the alleged scandal of corruption on the part of family members of Wen Jiabao. Basically they shut down everyone else.
Apples and Oranges?
It is worse, with apologies to Robert Vadra, it is Mangoes and Bananas!
