Google treats us to a trick Halloween Google Doodle

Google has marked Halloween with an interactive Google Doodle.  The Doodle pictures a small street of 5 homes which houses assorted ghouls, ghosts and creepy creatures.

To enjoy the Doodle, we’ve to knock on each of the 5 doors and get tricked and treated.  We get tricked with the spook and treated to a nice interactive Doodle.

Before we go trick or treating, there are 4 interesting characters hanging in the doodle - 2 of them literally hanging.  There is a spider hanging from a thread which when clicked switches on and off the 4 Jack-O-Lanterns on the doorsteps.

The skeleton hanging on the middle house, aptly numbered ‘13’ does a different jig whenever we click on it and the hopping crow ‘caws’.

The last character, the creepy black cat doesn’t pop out from the garbage can till we’ve knocked on all the 5 doors.

When we knock on the doors the spooky inhabitants show up to form the letters of - what else but - Google.
  • a blue one-eyed octopus forming 'G';
  • a pair of red and yellow eyes which provide the two 'Os';
  • a veiled ghost which forms the second 'G';
  • a phantom in the 4th door is the 'L';
  • and a fuzzy thingy makes up the 'E'.
When we click the spooks - the octopus whirls around, the eyes blink, the veiled ghost does a vanishing act (& reappears), the phantom vanishes fades and the fuzzy thing growls.

After we have had our fill, clicking on the black creepy cat makes it jump down and run along the street.  As it runs, all the doors close up on the creatures.  We are transferred to the Google search result page for ‘Happy Halloween!’

Oh yeah!  There is a creepy soundtrack which we can disable - though on my Chrome 22, I can’t hear anything. (Update:  Can’t hear anything even on the Firefox 16.0.2)
