For the OO7 We Like - 7 best cars

When we think of a James Bond film, we immediately think of the cars.  OK!  We think of the girls and gadgets before the cars, but when we think of action in a James Bond movie, we think of cars.

So much of action in many a James Bond movie is based on car chases, it would be safe to say that OO7 is the action hero most closely associated with cars.

With the 23rd official James Bond film Skyfall due to hit theatres 3 days from now, here is the promised 007 best cars of the James Bond movies, IMHO.

After 007 himself, the cars driven by him are the most iconic of the James Bond films along with the girls, gadgets and villains.  It is a fact that the Bond cars are a crucial part to every film.
(in ascending order with 007 being highest rating)

Car 001:  With just 2 itsy-bitsy rockets popping from the sides the BMW Z8 didn’t do much in The World is Not Enough.  The fact that the other BMWs (Z3 in Goldeneye and 750iL in Tomorrow Never Dies) also weren’t impressive scoots them to last place behind the Lotus Esprit Turbo.

Car 002: The stunning, attractive and eye-catching Lotus Esprit Turbo.  The car which didn’t do anything except blow itself up when bad guys try to pry it open and was supposedly resurrected by ‘Q’ in its copper / burgundy avatar in For Your Eyes Only.  That eye catching colour is the only reason for it to make my list.

Car 003:  The sleek, curvy, speedy car that wasn’t driven by James Bond but had its own gadgets - the Toyota 2000GT Roadster.  Driven by the Japanese agent SIS Agent Aki in You Only Live Twice.

Car 004:  The most underrated car, driven by the most underrated Bond in the most underrated of OO7 car chases - Aston Martin V8 Vantage in The Living Daylights by Timothy Dalton as OO7.  Equipped with rocket afterburner, missiles behind driving lights, spikes and laser tyre slashers and outrigger skies, the car looks every bit rugged as the James Bond of Timothy Dalton himself.

Car 005:  The white, smooth, radical and fantastic Lotus Esprit S1.  The car which turned into a submarine and also shot down the helicopter circling above with a Surface-to-Air missile in The Spy Who Loved Me.  It also had torpedoes, mines to protect itself, cement jets to blind enemies and oil slick camouflage.  The car that set the definition for a modern spy’s car in movies.

Car 006:  The second car ever driven by 007 in movies is also number 2 on my list - the incredibly exciting Aston Martin DB5.  The car was as much a star as Sean Connery himself.  The only car to star with 3 James Bonds - Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig, in Goldfinger, Thunderball, Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, Casino Royale and now in Skyfall.

Car 007:  For its stunning sleek modern look, the Aston Martin DBS is my 001 car.  Gadget-wise, it is one of the poorest - with only a hidden gun compartment,  a medical link to MI6 and a cute little defibrillator.  Nevertheless the car which appears in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, is my favourite - the OO7 car.

note: numbering reordered to give highest rating to 007 and lowest to 001 in true James Bond Spirit.
