Creative people are likely to be mad reveals study

Should I take it as a compliment, an insult or a diagnosis?  A research which encompassed more than a million people has hinted that Creativity is closely linked to mental illness.  Which is a sort of double speak.

Swedish researchers at the Karolinska Institute studied over a million people to establish the fact that creative people, especially writers, are subject to more anxiety are more susceptible to bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, unipolar depression.

For e.g., Hans Christian Andersen, the author who wrote the charming The Ugly Duckling and The Little Mermaid, had depression.  The study concludes creative people as a group are also more susceptible to substance abuse.

Well, what about Disney who gave a whole new life to ‘The Little Mermaid’ - is my question.

LOL.  But to get back to the point, one in four people are likely to suffer from mental disorders this year and would be benefited from medical assistance says the BBC report [http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-19959565].

Which raises more questions in my (?? creative ?? or ?? mad ??) mind!  For one, just how many people can write an article on mental illness and make it relevant?

In hubris, I guess one out of 4, as one in four is mentally unstable if the study is true!

Some more questions are:
Does this study mean that -
  • everyone who suffers from a mental disorder is a genius gone astray?
    • Heck!  just last month I supported a local campaign to place a mentally ill homeless woman into the Kilpauk asylum!
  • everyone who has a creative moment has had a mental aberration at the moment of revelation?
    • that Archimedes actually had a mental breakdown and not a Eureka moment when he discovered Archimedes Principle?  No wonder he ran through buck naked through the streets!
  • every criminal mastermind who is not caught out except by confession or accidental per-chance, is a genius?
    • like Bernie Madoff who swindled millions and was not spotted before his confession?
    • or India’s own Robert Vadra whose game would have gone unnoticed except for stick-to-rules bureaucrat?
  • the mental illness characterization makes for great characters, even in fiction and on screen!
    • the Joker and Batman (along with TwoFace, Riddler, Penguin, Scarecrow) and even the Green Goblin are a huge hit in contrast to Superman and Green Lantern?
So, what are the answers?

Well, I can’t provide any - for the simple reason I am inclined to go either way - and that’s not in pun or seriousness.  (I can’t simply make up my mind with utmost seriousness or in jest!)
ROFLMAO!!

(And that does not need to be thought through with 2 minds - it appeals to both)
