Welcome to a new (old) contributor

If you had been reading this blog with any regularity, you would remember what happened to my attempt to write on one Thirukkural a day under a regular feature ‘Daily Dose of Thirukkural’.

I wrote exactly 5 posts (plus one introductory post) before shoving it to the backburner.  The reason is simple - lack of time for the amount of effort needed to write such a post.

First I have to read and understand the Kural couplet in question, which isn’t easy for me.  Like every other normal Tamil speaker, my proficiency in ancient or literature Tamil isn’t something to write home about (or blog about).  Then there is the work involved in typing out the original couplet and its meaning in Tamil and then translating it into English.

Thus the Thirukkural initiative was languishing till a dear old man emailed expressing an interest in contributing to this blog.

My first reaction is to firmly and kindly reject the offer pointing out -
  1. the huge amount of time involved - especially considering his age, and
  2. considering the ‘popularity’ (actually lack of it) of this blog, he would do better getting in touch with someone else.
But since the geezer kept insisting, I have approved his email ID for access as author - with a strict understanding that he doesn’t post (as of now) anything other than Thirukkural.  And I see that the first post #6 of Thirukkural series is already online.
:-)

BTW the old man ‘krishnan.vadhyar’ is the one who slipped me the few pages of Yajur Upakarma, and which was appreciated (and downloaded) by three persons as by comments.  So, welcome to a new (co-)blogger and may he prove to be better motivated on Thirukkural than me.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

And modified the Layout to include a ‘contributors’ gadget in the sidebar.
