English Test Cricket captains taste good

Is there a new tradition within the hallowed walls of the Lord’s or has an unspecified new Law been enacted by the MCC?  Or is it simply one more of ECB’s well-intended bloopers (like the tie-up fiasco and big screen wives controversy with Allen Stanford)?

From the time I started to understand the game of Cricket, the names of the captains of England cricket team seem to have an association with a food item or something associated with food (or beverage).  To be more precise, I only refer to the name of English Men’s Test Cricket Captains; not their ODI, T-20 or Women’s teams.

I can understand a couple, but to have selected 11 men (over 24 years) one after other with names associated with food, is hard to believe.  I hope they name 3 more like them - so they can have a full fledged touring team.
:-D

What I mean is there’s -
  • Allan ‘Lamb’ (1989-91),
  • Alec ‘Stew’art (1992-2001),
  • Michael (Mich'ale’) Atherton (1993-2001),
  • Mark ‘Butcher’ (1999),
  • Nasser ‘Huss’ain (1999-2003),
  • Michael (Mich'ale’) Vaughan (2003-08),
  • Marcus ‘Tres’cothick (2004-06),
  • Andrew ‘Flint’off (2006-07),
  • Kevin ‘Pie’tersen (2008-09),
  • Andrew ‘Strauss’ (2006-12),
    • to be followed by,
  • Alistair ‘Cook’ (2010-).
8-B

My wacky half wonders, ‘when will they get to Indian or Chinese dishes?  Like Aloo or Tofu!’
