This would probably the Last Post from the venerable PC which has served me good over the last 7 years or so. Finally I could scrounge up enough money and courage (actually an ‘eff it’ moment) to go in for -
:-)
Think the assembly and commissioning would take me all of today to do it. Especially so, since there is no easy way to migrate almost 200GB of essential data from the old IDE drives into the new SATA drive.
:-(
It is time to jump in and get the hands dirty - they’ve been so for the last 2 days while assembling and commissioning a similar PC (except the processor was an i3) for a friend. More on that and today’s experience later.
Wish me luck! Hopefully will be back sometime tonight!
Cheers!
Here is an image of a 3rd generation (Ivy Bridge) Intel Core i7 processor die to give a fair idea of what these Quad Core processors are about:

- an Intel Core i5-2320 processor,
- on an Intel Desktop Motherboard DH61WW,
- with 4GB DDR3 1333 MHz Mercury RAM,
- a Barracuda Seagate ST3500630AS 500GB SATA HDD, and,
- an LG-GH24NS71 DVD Rewriter,
- on a Zebronics Calix-249 cabinet,
- with a 450W SMPS and a Zebronics Judwaa 4 KBD & Mouse combo pack thrown in.
