So what exactly is new in Google Chrome 19 stable? A lot of bug fixes - around 19 to fix the security holes. Cute isn’t? Chrome 19 stable fixes (about) 19 security bugs!
:-)
Jokes apart, there are 2 major changes which will affect user experience with Google Chrome 19 stable.
The first is the ‘Tab Sync’ feature, which is aptly termed as ‘Keeping tabs on your Tabs’ [http://chrome.blogspot.in/2012/05/keeping-tabs-on-your-tabs.html] by Raz Mathias in the Chrome Blog. You can read a concise account of the benefits of synchronising browser tabs across devices in there. In simple terms, Google Chrome 19 stable offers the ability to synchronise tabs just like the ability to synchronise bookmarks, themes, extensions, apps, history and other settings available since Chrome 16 stable.
Of course, all these synchronizing works only if you are signed in to your Google account, and the still persisting doubt (or fear) of privacy issues with Google cloud Sync. But if you are like me, and aren’t trying to peep into your GF’s email account or trying out something worse, go ahead and sign in to Google and sync - from personal experience it is a relief not to lose bookmarks when something goes wrong with the PC.
The second more glaring and user noticeable change is the way browser ‘settings’ are organised. When we click on the ‘wrench’, we do not end up with the familiar
Clicking the ‘Show advanced settings’ link at the bottom drops the remaining options previously found under ‘Personal’ and ‘Under the Bonnet’.
The URL to the settings page has also changed. From the previous ‘chrome://settings/’ it has changed to ‘chrome://chrome/settings/’. (The URL of the History and Extensions have also similarly changed).
Apart from Google Chrome 19 stable, the following software have new versions / updates.
Their current version numbers and download links (along with other software of interest) are listed at the Latest Versions page.
