Too many sinners spook the spoils

Well, the Opposition parties have been going hammer and tongs at the present Congress led Administration, asking for it, to practically, abdicate.

As Kapil Sibal says, and I endorse that view, ‘what else you expect the opposition parties (in a democracy) to do?’.  That says it all.

BTW isn’t today’s Kapil Sibal (after having eaten the humble pie), a real treat to watch, agree, enjoy and endorse, instead of the pushy, threatening ogre we have been witness to for last year or so?

So what exactly is the impact on the governing style and policies of this Congress led Administration and also on future Administrations (Congress led or not), by this judgement?

There is a major one that I can think of at the moment - and which incidentally was an ‘invention’ of the previous NDA regime under A.B. Vajpayee.  Because, under Vajpayee, and ever on, we have had this strange creatures called ‘Cabinet Committee on xxxxx’, which have been given sovereign authority to decide on matters of National importance.

It is worrisome (and has been reinforced by the SC verdict today) that a group of individuals, sometimes numbering in single digits as was the case in 2G spectrum allotment with Raja, have been allowed to formulate and enforce National policy.  If ever Raja’s decisions had been put up before the entire Cabinet, the scam could have been prevented.

I say this not because I believe that this (or an NDA) cabinet would have abhorred a scam - but simply because of the old adage -
  • ‘too may sinners spook the spoils’
    • Oops! shouldn’t that be? …
  • ‘too many cooks spoil the dinner’
Now, did I or did I not blog about the situation where the full Cabinet is not involved in decision making, while the Constitution deems that the Governance of India shall be through a collective Cabinet.

Even if I didn’t,
  • there is another aspect to the policy/decision making which has been the hallmark of the Administrations starting with I.K. Gujral and followed by Deve Gowda, Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh Administrations which led out to this predicament.
  • there is also a possible stunning come back by the present Congress regime, which could absolve it of the taint of the 2G scam.
But both of those need more time to write - time when my dinner is getting cold.  Yesterday, I had to settle for a cold dinner, all alone, due to my eagerness to post on the Kats being out.

Today, I am not willing to undergo the same.  If anyone figures out the 2 points, you’re welcome to exploit it in your blog (or if you are a politician to go your leader and score some points) or comment in here (and be possibly ridiculed by me).

If not, wait until tomorrow to learn and repent ‘Now Why didn’t I think of it?’
As for me - wish you a nice dinner and Good Night!

My Stunned half stutters, ‘This is a rare post - a post without a single external reference / link to reports or articles or an image!’

  1. ROFL, at least Sibal is humbled by the SC. But the Krazy Katz is still going strong. SC can take out a man, but can't take SC out of a man.
