First the 1 year thing - Today, A. Raja, the former telecom minister, indicted on charges of ‘criminal breach of trust by a public servant’, has completed one year of imprisonment. Happy Anniversary Raja. Smile for the camera, please.
Next come the 122 licences, which have been cancelled by the Supreme Court of India, in a far reaching judgement today. Apart from the consequences of the verdict on the ongoing criminal case against Raja and 16 others, it is also a broadside on Raja’s successor as Telecom Minister, Kapil Sibal.
The bullying, blathering, frothing Kapil Sibal has been literally slapped by the Supreme Court. Remember this worthy, Kapil Sibal was the one who,
:-D
/ROFLMAO/
Then comes the 5 crore fine slapped on Uninor, Etisalat and TATA! Didn’t I (the only one?) call Ratan Tata out on the issue of Radia Tapes, which was indisputably linked to the 2G Spectrum allocation scam?
If this is any indication of the thinking of the Court in the matter of the Radia Tapes, (and as pointed out either way Ratan Tata is on a bad wicket’) we are in for fun time. Get ready to start counting --- money to pay for the fine, Ratan.
;-)
/Schadenfreude?/
The last is the 15 months. The 15 months is the time difference between my call to cancel all 122 licences and the Supreme Court verdict affirming the same. (I called for it thrice - 4 days later and after 2 more days).
Well, Prashant Bhushan and Subramaniyan Swamy might claim all credit and in fact can do so as they were the ones to move the Public Interest Litigation in the Supreme Court. Bhushan did it on 14 Dec 2010 and Swamy did it on 4 Jan 2011. And when did I write my piece? On 14th Nov 2010 … yup, a full month before the first PIL !?!
O:-)
One more proof that the in-your-face by-line of this blog “Now, Why didn’t You think of it?” is justified! And as for any of the worthies named above, you can substitute them instead of Daffy here -
My Humble half chastens, ‘And maddie, you can substitute your swollen head for that of Porky, you prig! Don’t crow so much!’

- said that no wrongdoing was committed by Raja in the Spectrum allocation.
- made a move to cancel a small number of the 122 licences (around 60 or so) to deflect attention.
- made another move, within days, proposing not to cancel the licences, but to collect additional fee (and regularise them).
