Mozilla Firefox 10 has been released, though the official page (as usual) still offers only ver. 9.0.1. and attempts to update manually shows up with ‘You’ve the latest version’ message.
As mentioned earlier regarding Firefox 8 and Firefox 9, you’ve to get them from the Mozilla FTP site (as of this post). So apart from what Mozilla would claim, is Firefox 10 better than its earlier avatars?
On my first few minutes of testing, it seems a tad quicker than version 9. But that speed gain vis-a-vis Chrome is not noticeable.
Firefox 10 likes less memory, which is a great relief. Earlier versions used to hog about 120 MB on my PC, but this one seems to be satisfied with ~75 MB with one tab open. Every additional tab seems to eat about 8 MB each - same as earlier. But one worry is that the CPU usage shoots as high as 93 and takes its own time to come down.
Apart from Firefox 10 there are other software which have updates too:
All Software are (C) and/or (R) of respective owners. Please also read the Licence page. Those conditions apply in full.
Here is the screen shot of the Firefox 10 'what is new' page. First I thought it was a sand sculpture, which on closer look turned out to be a wood engraving.
My Wicked half whispers, ‘Maybe it is me, but tilting my head a little left makes me see the Evil Witch Queen looking into her magic mirror! Here see for yourself…’

Guess it is the every alternate release of FF that's good. The 10.0 so far in the other variety. Freezes without any reason and have to clear cache to make it move again. :-(
ReplyDeleteyou can try the risky and painful option of a complete uninstall & a reinstall.
DeleteRisky - because unless you remember to backup everything (settings, bookmark, extensions, et. al.) you might lose important info/ref.
Painful - if you do forget any of those things and frankly, browsers shouldn't ever be designed for an uninstall/reinstall during updates.
As for me, Firefox is my 'spare' browser; It's been some time since I adopted Chrome.
And I hardly ever use IE.
