Perhaps I should add, Gen. Kayani, Soldier, Jump - Eff You Sir! ROFLMAO!
General McChrystal was sacked (let go-dismissed) by President Obama for uttering ‘discordant’ opinion on the ‘political-strategic’opinion policies of his ‘Commander-in-Chief’, President Obama. No one complained. The disciplined General didn’t bristle and browbeat - he just accepted the ‘civilian’ control and faded away! For an American, surprisingly, he didn’t sue!
We all are enamoured with the shenanigans of General Kayani vis-a-vis his Civilian counterparts, and in the bargain, some suspect, the General has even managed to suborn the Pakistani Supreme Court to do his dirty deeds! The issue is that the Pakistani Head of State/Government feared an Army Coup and wanted to take preventive measures. The uncontrollable General, bristled and (does seem to have) browbeaten - the ‘civilian’ control!
But back home, It happens only in India, as they say. The Chief of Indian Army is in a big tussle over the Civilian Head of Government and the Military Forces - the Defence Ministry and by implication the President of India - over his date of birth and the *time* he has left in office- of the as Army Chief! He has bristled and now is attempting to browbeat the ‘civilian’ control by petitioning the Supreme Court!
I do not want to go into the merits and demerits of the Army Chief’s case. But my point is - he did accept the job of the Army Chief, knowing fully well that his Date of Birth is in question.
There are so many lawyers in this administration, something like 6 or 8(?), perhaps they think that it would give them or their near-and-dear ones, ‘means’ for the next few years. Idiots.
What has been surprising to me for the last few weeks is - has this administration lost its individual and/or collective thinking ability?
Because, if I was the Defence Minister, ever since the Army Chief started to bristle and browbeat (or even before), certainly as a ‘Deepavali’ gift, would have arranged for a Presidential order to be delivered to the Army Chief, *instructing* him that his tenure of office held under the *pleasure* of the President of India, would be over on ‘that-particular-date’ (on which the Government has decided based on his ‘alleged’ date of birth). Now that would have been a coup! Irrespective of his ‘age’, he holds it at the pleasure of the President of India, and if she (he) decides to ‘un’pleasure him …
As for the General, if he had so wished to continue to serve after demitting his office as Army Chief, I would … (you get the idea)

My Worried half whispers, ‘maddie, get ready for a lot of abuses.’
To which my Carefree half comments, ‘Let them come. I am not a military man, but a sailor never runs from a land lubber!’ /LOL/

- If he did accept the job - as Army Chief - while his date of birth is in question,
- why is he not willing
to let go ofdemit the job - as Army Chief - while his date of birth is in question?
- holds his office by the Constitution of India,
- (has to) swear by it,
- has to uphold it, and
- is bound by it.
