English Wikipedia goes dark; Google places a link

As part of #BlackoutSOPA or #SOPAstrike, the Google homepage (search page) has started to sport a link “Tell Congress: Please don't censor the web!”, (though its Google India @ google.co.in page does not).

I thought they would either come up with an appropriate Google Doodle or even just an all Black ‘Google’ - but nothing so spectacular.

However the English language Wikipedia site has been blacked out.  Spectacular!

And so has BoingBoing

Of course, monkeyshine nutworks already sports its own version of a layover.  I went with the layover for
  • it is simple to implement and discard;
  • being a blogger (blogspot) hosted site, there is a limit to what I can and cannot do.
To those who find it essential to peruse Wikipedia today - a do or die reason - and though it breaks the spirit of the protest (but again reinforces the point of the blackout - an open and free internet, information & knowledge), the English mobile site of Wikipedia will & is still on.

To use it just insert a ‘.m’ in the URL.  For eg., the English Wikipedia URL for India is ‘en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India’.

To use the mobile page the corresponding URL is ‘en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/India’ - and yes, you can use it from your PC too.

Cheers!
