Awesome! Every sports lover should watch this! Whether you accept it or not, Shane Warne *is* the greatest spin bowler of our time and definitely one of the greatest ever. And if anyone ever talks about those two chuckers Murlitharan and Harbhajan Singh in the same breath as Warne, he definitely has been knocked on his head by bouncers - several times.
:-)
The proof of pudding is in the eating, so the saying goes and Warne showed just how good he is in yesterday’s BBL game. He was playing for Melbourne (Stars) against Brisbane (Heat) and in his second over, he was on ‘live’ talking to the commentary team.
Brendan McCullum charged, edged the first ball for a single. His partner then took off another single of the 2nd ball. That was when Warnie was asked to talk through his bowling plans. As he started his run up, Warne explained that ‘he expects McCullum to try and sweep and so he will slide one in fast’. So that was the delivery he bowled…
And what do you know! McCullum did attempt to sweep and the was bowled around his legs on the middle stump! Just watch the video.
My Admiring half admits, ‘Of his contemporary spinners, I think only Anil Kumble and to a certain extent Saqlain Mushtaq could plan so. At present, Greame Swann is one such; (Oops! My apologies. I forgot Daniel Vettori); for the rest - tossing the ball is like tossing the coin. :-P’
