Penguins are better than our Parliamentarians

This is probably one of the funniest incidents of jealousy I have ever heard.  We in India are used to temper tantrums, sulks and horrible ruckus created by all and sundry whenever someone (anyone) feels that they or their points of view are not given enough attention.

Thus, to list a few:
  • when people have well reasoned doubts and question the hare brained scheme of Anna Hazare, he does not like it, goes into a sulk and a fast
  • when some mischievous bloggers express some profanity in a fit of anger, Kapil Sibal, the Telecom Minister throws a tantrum and threatens censorship on Social Media companies
  • when the Union Government wants to bring in Foreign Direct Investment in Retail, Mamta Banerjee, a coalition ally, throws a fit and allegedly threatens to withdraw support
  • when an unknown court in the far reaches of Russian Siberia hears a suit to ban/censor a version of Bhagwad Gita, Indian Parliamentarians create pandemonium and ruckus in the House
  • and so on …
Of all the four, the last one by the Parliament members is the hardest for me to digest.  The other 3 (and so many others like them) can at least be favoured with the argument that the incident, situation or happening is in India and we can and do have some control, direction and decision over it; that the ramification will be felt by us.

In the case of the suit before some court in Siberia, protesting, howling, creating ruckus and screwing up the functioning of *our* Parliament *here* is in no way going to affect the decision making of the Judge (Magistrate?) there!

BTW, personally I have 2 points to make:
  • Trying to ban Bhagwad Gita, the 2 epcis - Mahabaratha and Ramayana, the Upanishads and the 4 Vedas are like attempting to ban the Torah, the Koran, the Bible, the Grandh Sahib or any other holy text.  It is pure Talibanism.
  • OTOH, even I have some issues with the ISKON’s view of Hinduism and do not agree with some of their concepts. (And I do not want to get into a flame war with anyone on this or any other religious subject).  Thus without reading how that version of Gita has been interpreted and espoused, I am not willing to join the protest club.
To put it in perspective, there wasn’t a peep out of these ‘enlightened’ souls when Delhi University dropped the essay on Ramanyana by A.K. Ramanujam.  I wonder why?
:-P

Anyway, what tickled my funny bone today is the BBC report [http://www.bbc.co.uk/] on the Rockhopper Penguins.  The Penguins are long established settlers at the Edinburgh Zoo.  The Zoo had brought Pandas all the way from China and after acclimatization were opened to the public last Friday.  The people, understandably, have started to flock (no pun intended) to watch the Pandas.

The Penguins, no doubt, grew jealous at the new attraction to the Pandas and their own consequential loss (of public attention), have started to throw their ‘poop’ on the people lining up to watch the Pandas.

ROFLMAO!
