This is going to really scare many of the tweens in my circles. A group of guys have written up a crawler which records all the downloads via torrents by IP Address. Yikes!

If you are a big torrent user / file sharer, head to youhavedownloaded.com to check what are the records for your (current) IP Address. Don’t worry if you see some extra bits of downloads showing up on your address. If you’re in my circles, you’re most likely to be located in India, and 99.99% sure to be using a dynamic IP address. If you don’t know what dynamic IP is, read all about it here [http://whatismyipaddress.com/dynamic-static].
If you want just an outline, your ISP has a certain (large) number of IP addresses with it and assigns one at random when you log on to the internet. As soon as you log off the IP is reassigned to the next needy user. Since it is random, it will keep changing every time you log on - hence called dynamic.
So whatever downloaded by other users while using your ‘current’ dynamic IP address will also show up as yours.
When I went there, I the result was:
0:-)
Not that I don’t use torrents. I use torrents, but not for illegal downloads. I never download movies, music, videos etc., for which I have not paid and the only times I have downloaded clips/images are for fair-use on the blog, with due credits. I do rely on torrents to download two of my favourite software:
