The first Thirukkural deals with 'God’ under the section ‘Righteousness’.
The couplet serial number is 001.
Explanation in English:
As all letters (languages) begin (originates) with the first letter ‘A’, the World (Life) has its beginning (origin) with the ‘Primal Diety’ (Eternal God).
Original Couplet:
அகர முதல எழுத்தெல்லாம் ஆதி
பகவன் முதற்றே உலகு.
No two ways about it.
If you believe in God, whichever God (or Goddess) is that, everyone of us believe that there was One ‘God’ (or Goddess) in the beginning. Every religious text I know, (little that it is) insist upon that.
It is a different matter that religion by itself has diverged into ‘monotheist’ or ‘polytheist’ ideologies. Within Hinduism, it has further divided into Advaitha and Visht-Adhvaitha or even Dvaita philosophies.
But if we go down to basics, all (major) religions of the World insist on this point - a Primal Deity, from which the Trinity and everything else, including Life evolved.
If you do not believe in God as a special, supreme being, even then, you’ve to admit that all (?) languages spoken by humans begin with the sound ‘A’ or a little variant of it.
My Naughty half natters, ‘Today, there are languages which do not begin with the sound ‘A’, the languages of the Computing, whichin fact don’t recognise anything else than ‘0’ or ‘1 seem to begin with ‘Hello, World!’’.
>;-)
To which my Admiring half admits, ‘True. But then such languages aren’t human-easy, for which you still need the languages with A’.
