The Madras High Court has ruled that the Uniform Syllabus (samacheer kalvi) as decided by the previous DMK administration, with certain deletions (the DMK aggrandizing parts), is correct and the way to proceed with the education for the state’s students.
Not surprising, unless you are a die-hard ADMK party man who blindly believes that whatever that party does is good and great. For all of us neutral observers and consumers, it should be a sigh of relief, as now the children can start their schooling at last.
My only surprise is that the committee, in all its wisdom, chose to toe the official line, as the syllabus seemed to be broadly in line with the NCERT syllabus.
For sure that of the 30 odd people who seem to read this blog (and don’t comment) every day, none are of people in authority - else they’d never have stuck on to the present course. For sure not the judiciary as they do not need any advice from me.
:-)
Not surprising is also the report that the government is planning to appeal against the judgement in the Supreme Court of India - although I am not sure on what grounds they’d appeal - it can only be on some minor technicality, like calling for the minutes of the meetings of the appointed committee - which one might argue is trespassing on the executive process. Personally, I am not sure even that might pass muster in this case as the committee itself was appointed as per the Court’s wishes and the Courts would have all the authority to supervise the committee.
Well we don’t want our children to learn imaginary numbers taught by Hobbes, without proper books.
