In Do Robots feel, I had written about the Astounding, the Amazing and the Unknown story contest and my pique at being kept out not being a US resident.
The parody was picked up by Paul Malmont and he had a few kind words to say about it. Reading my own post and his response, the contrast between an accomplished author and a wannabe-blogger is apparent. In a few words, Paul puts across all that had to be said on the subject including a gentle admonishment.

In contrast, mine is energetic and full of verve, to put it diplomatically. Hope I learn to write as good as him or other authors someday.

Having some free time this Sunday, started reading the entries in the Astounding, the Amazing and the Unknown story contest, which I had been meaning to and vote in, and never did. A little surprised as on 26th June, I recollect seeing quite a few entries - about 2 dozen of them.
Anyway, today there are only 5 entries and the winner, supposed to have been announced on 22nd July, is yet to be declared. Whatever, of the 5, in my opinion:

- not sure whether one of them qualifies as a Science Fiction story, but has very powerfully constructed characters and situation;
- the second story is a little convoluted with the story line confusing itself; more important this story totally disregards the ‘3 laws of Robotics’ which is universally accepted as a must - if only in Science Fiction;
- the third one is not bad, but not impressive either - just an also ran;
- the fourth one is really good, a nice play on emotions - of characters and readers; only the spell/grammatical errors and slightly outdated concept about robot internals are its cons;
- the last one is a powerful construction, a fantastic story, only let down in the end - too abrupt an end which feels disconnected.
Yaaah! Here they come.
