Today on June 21, is the summer solstice and also the day Mozilla has chosen to release the Firefox version 5 - and being an US based organisation (California at that), June 21 means 22nd for us in India and the East.
Which really is a bit of a pain, if you ask me. Now if Firefox 5 is to be available to general public on the summer solstice day, I want it on my PC on the same day, not one day late.
So I went mousing around the public FTP servers of Mozilla foundation and viola - there it was - the Mozilla Firefox 5 ready to be released. From then on it was a simple matter of downloading and upgrading the Firefox 4 to 5.
So what are you waiting for? Here is the link:
ftp://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/5.0/win32/
Double click on the language of your choice (either en-GB or en-US for us Indians and my brand of poison is en-GB), download the “Firefox Setup 5.0.exe”, and install/upgrade.
Don’t forget to check the MD5 or SHA1 checksums after download and before installation.
Here are the MD5 sums
and the SHA1 sums
879c575295f971de3487f3920db02f896cd5455c -en-GB/Firefox...
BTW if you use http:// in the URL instead of ftp://, you’d get this message, in which case just change the ‘http’ to ‘ftp’
And I still cannot see the comment form in my blog. Something broke after Firefox 3.6.18 and it hasn’t been fixed yet by Mozilla.
:-/
So Chrome will continue to be my primary browser with Firefox just-in-case.
