Was the US President shown our Sunny side?

The US President is here and in a few short hours, he will go back – after visiting other friends.  By all accounts, the visit, till now has been great, if not a success, with the Prez even dancing a little jig.

There is a $10bn cheer  for the US, the PM has set aside  protocol to greet a friend and the first couple have  charmed the children.  All said and done, it seems India has been charmed by the President.  Has ‘he’ been charmed, in turn by us?

Apart from
we have gained nothing – even our long standing aspiration for a permanent seat in the UN Security Council seems as difficult as it was a decade ago.

We seem to have managed to win him over for one Maize cob shelling contraption, worth about $1 and some promise for cooperation in Agriculture – nothing on latest Nuclear, Clean-Coal Technology or even on the visas.

Meanwhile our own former President was in their capital announcing an initiative to harness and harvest Solar Power from space to be used down here – the Kalam-National Space Society  Initiative.  On that subject, I hope the US President’s attention was casually brought about to the way the Indians use the Sun – for example,
  • to dry the clothes (while driving through Mumbai or Delhi, where even posh apartment complexes allow residents to dry clothes), or
  • to dry, de-moisturize the grains, cereals and products (during the visit to the Agriculture & Food Expo)
– a gentle reminder / pointer that we still need more ‘understanding’ from the developed nations on Climate Change.  Hope they did these, apart from what I’d blogged earlier about.
