It was nice for a change to see the new PR trick in putting the under controversy Ms. Barkha Dutt, a senior editor of the NDTV channel in front of senior, respected, un-caught in the controversy editors. But for me, it didn’t work - no clear enough answers.
update: 01 Dec 2010 - WSJ too is left unimpressed.
The seniors, experienced people (except for one who got emotional) gave her a lot of rope. And to my consternation, she took it! She went on live TV and accepted that she had had an error of judgement, gullible, silly, etc. - I’d never thought I’d see a day when a journalist/media person leave alone a senior editor would accept that in public - maybe in a court of law, but in public TV without provocation? Oh!

The conspiracy theorists (and I am not one of them), would immediately jump to one of their pet theorems - ‘give-some’- which is to disclose some of it, even partial truth, while dancing away or muddling the entire truth. As I said, I am not one of them.
BTP, she did everything and at one point I was afraid she would do a cry-baby live. Thank God, that she didn’t do that! Barkha crying on TV would turn everyone’s heart - including mine.

Of less said about the anchor, the better - she was only too eager to jump to Barkha’s defence whenever she perceived that B was in danger - which I thought she was in throughout.
To summarize:
My Wicked half whispers, ‘Hope Dr. Swamy doesn’t take umbrage and file a case in court - saying that the show is an attempt to subvert due investigation and subsequent judicial process’.
That would be like ‘Freddy’ let loose in a nursery - blood everywhere!
Yaah! Not him! Not in my dreams!
If I do have nightmares tonight, hope it is of this nightmare instead - the galloping ghost.

To summarize:
- Why I am being targeted while none of others? - doesn’t wash - when you like people to watch your show more (for more TRPs), naturally you’ll be targeted more and specially, not others whom we haven’t heard about.
- How was ‘raw’ data allowed? and how can one depend on them? This point is moot, a throwback to non-web-world days! By this logic, we should go back to days of Soviet Union or present North Korea or not have NDTV at all - only DD of 70’s where nothing was live. By extension, no raw data should be allowed on media - like live Cricket, CWG/Asian Games, YouTube, Blogging, or Exit Polls or Live Poll Results - we should all get fed on only ‘digested’, ‘manipulated’ data - maybe even a ‘Blue-Shield’ akin to Green Dam Firewall of China.
- Why didn’t you talk to the involved parties before you publish them? Well did you tell all your viewers that you’ve had conversations with Ms. Radia even when it became apparent that she was allegedly into shenanigans? Even 3 months back, we had no inkling of your conversation - when you could have disclosed this.
- To keep diverting the attention and talk about media ethics as a whole and of involvement in the alleged 2G scandal is totally beyond the purpose of the show - the show was put up on your behalf for you to (as I understand) to clear ‘your’ position - to rake up other issues is simple smoke-screen.
- The body language did speak out - totally unconvincing when trouble some questions were asked and relaxed once the anchor got into the scuffle.
