India Shining versus Bharat Nirman

Ever remember the ‘India Shining’ campaign in 2003-2004, which was also touted as one of the reasons for the defeat of the then ruling party in the 2004 general elections?

At that time, my Mischievous half commented (not on blog since I wasn’t blogging then) that ‘Yeah, India is Shining, if you’re high on Moonshine!’.  And it appeared that majority of voters agreed with me.
:-)

Now we have a new campaign ‘Bharat Nirman’.  And taking a look at the alleged scams going on around, perhaps it is time for me to coin a new paraphrase.

Bharat Nirmaan

To non-Hindi speakers, like most madrasis (& other readers) -
  • ‘Bharat’ is the name of India in (almost all the 21) native, national languages, like Nippon/Japan, Deutschland/Germany.
  • ‘Nirman’ is Sanskrit/Hindi for construction (design, build, create).
  • ‘Beyiman’ is Hindi for corrupt (dishonest, untrue, cheat)
And so, here I dedicate to the nation, a new catch phrase:
Bharat Nirman by Beyiman - भारत निर्माण by बेईमान - (Constructing India by Corruption)
>:-)
