Way to go Microsoft! Yay!

It is not often that one has a good word for Microsoft – often what we have to say is unprintable due to the cussedness of their software.  This time the company has taken a leaf off of its founder and broken new ground by offering free software.

On Sunday, NYT reported that Russia (among others) is using the anti-piracy laws to target political opposition, advocacy groups and NGOs.

The reaction from Microsoft has been swift and to the point.  The company has offered ‘blanket licences’ to all such groups in more than 30 countries.  More important, such groups are automatically covered and do not need to apply for or obtain such licences.

Good work MicroSoft.

Just goes to prove that being big doesn’t mean it cannot be nimble.  Contrast this with the way our HRD Ministry handled the issue of World Champion’s citizenship.

Kapil Sibal, what software does your ministry use?
