While blogging or tweeting or publishing, important points are to take a hard look at the subject, the point of view and not to publish with the heat of the moment. The dangers of such instances were on display recently with the Sashi Tharoor, Lalit Modi and Suresh Kalmadi’s outburst against Mani Shankar Aiyar – in every case, it backfired. That’s one reason this blog isn’t an early bird on breaking news – the particular news might head anywhere.
The best way to protect against such backfires is to do what is called ‘homework’ – in Sailor Speak it is called ‘Check Six’ and in more polite company as ‘CYA’
Scarcely a day after the Peafowl yodel the report that Over 100 MPs Had Quiet Session in the Parliament surfaced. So much for the claims of hard work and speaking out for the public. Of course, this statistics would have included people who did some actual heavy-duty work, but who *may* not have spoken out during the session – like Mrs. Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi.
OTOH, it would have excluded many MPs who spoke out this session, only for their ‘emoluments’ – so should balance out each other on the whole, which still cuts a very sorry picture.
An 84% score of productive hours? – One can’t even get into a decent college with 84% score, leave alone the University College of Engineering, forget about earning Rs. 150,000 a month. (Note: cut off calculation at 84% will be 168).
Thus turns the yodel into a howler.
BTW did you know that Googling for ‘Mrs. Gandhi’ still leads to Mrs. Indira Gandhi – a full 26 years after her death?
